Scripture is meant to be spoken.

Declare Bible began with one conviction — that the Word is not only for reading — and the whole app is an attempt to take it seriously.

Most of us can quote more advertising than Scripture, and it is not for lack of Bibles. We have more access to the text than any generation in history and, on the whole, less of it worked into us. The gap is not information. It is that reading is silent, private and easy to postpone, and it leaves nothing in your mouth for the moment you actually need it.

So we built around the mouth rather than the page. The app gives you three declarations a day, tied to morning, noon and night, because that is roughly the rhythm Scripture itself keeps describing — talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down and when you rise.

Everything else in the app exists to make that possible on a real day: the full Bible offline, music you can put underneath it, somewhere to ask what a verse means the moment the question occurs, and a way to shut the other apps for the length of a prayer.

What we believe about declaring

The word has a reputation, and some of it is deserved. Declaration has been taught as a technique for arranging outcomes: say the thing with enough conviction and heaven is obliged. That is not what the practice is, and the difference matters more than almost anything else on this page.

A declaration roots you further into what God has said. Its counterfeit quietly puts you at the centre and treats Scripture as an instrument for procuring outcomes. The two use the same words and travel in opposite directions.

Which is why the test we apply to every declaration we write is a question about direction rather than tone. Is this sentence repeating a text, or is it an inference dressed as one? Inferences can be wrong without God having failed anybody, and knowing which of the two is in your mouth is most of the discipline.

What’s in the app

Built in the order a day actually happens, rather than in the order a feature list usually gets written.

  • Declarations for morning, noon and night, each one drawn from a passage
  • Twenty-five Bible translations across ten languages, all offline
  • Bible Chat, for the questions a passage raises while you are reading it
  • A library of original worship music, written around Scripture
  • Prayer Lock, which holds your other apps shut at the hours you choose
  • A community declaring the same promises in their own languages
  • The day's verse on your home screen, without opening anything
  • Reminders, a streak, and somewhere to keep the verses you return to
  • Many more exciting features…

Three things we hold to

These are the constraints we design against. They cost us features fairly regularly, which is how we know they are real.

The passage comes first

Every declaration in the app is tied to a text you can look up, in context, and check for yourself. A sentence with a chapter and verse behind it is a sentence nobody invented — which is the whole safeguard, and we would rather ship fewer declarations than loosen it.

Agreement, not leverage

Declaring is saying back to God what He has already said. It is not a formula that obliges Him, volume does not improve the odds, and an answer that has not come is not evidence you said it badly. That burden belongs to nobody, and we will not build anything that quietly puts it back on you.

It has to work on an ordinary Tuesday

On the commute, in a queue, in a kitchen at six in the morning, with no signal. A practice that needs good conditions is a practice you will keep for about a fortnight, so the Bible is on your phone rather than on our server, and the day's verse is there before you open anything.

Write to us

If something in the app is wrong, or a declaration reads like it is claiming more than its passage does, we would genuinely rather know.

Your next chapter starts with a word.

Make a little room for what matters. Take Declare Bible with you.
